At their meeting Oct. 12, the Dodge County Commissioners learned that the Minnesota Department of Transportation is planning on opening the new Highway 14 to traffic on Nov. 1. Traffic may be confined to one lane each way on some portions, but the project should be substantially complete. The remaining work involves finishing up interchanges, intersections, and landscaping. Kurt Wayne, Principal Planner for MnDOT District 6 gave the update to the commissioners.

The new four-lane highway replaces the two-lane portion of Highway 14 between Owatonna and Dodge Center.

The commissioners also discussed and approved the county doing the winter maintenance on the old Highway 14 this year. MnDOT will pay the county to do snow removal this this year because the project is not yet complete and that portion of Highway 14 has not officially been turned over to the county, explained County Engineer Guy Kohlnhofer. Once the project is officially complete, the county will be responsible for all maintenance on the old highway.
