Crime Prevention BoothIn response to the ever-changing challenges we face today regarding changes in crime here in SE Minnesota, combined with the need to take on a more proactive approach to crime, the Sheriff’s Office implemented a Crime Prevention program in July of 2002 to enhance and improve the department’s existing Community Policing philosophy.

Some of the Crime Prevention program responsibilities include; acting as a liaison between the department and the county’s six city councils, managing Disorderly Use Ordinance and other Community Crime Prevention Programs, providing Crime Prevention Seminars for civic organizations, senior groups, community education, etc., and department web site management.

The goal of these new proactive programs is to help educate the public on how to better protect themselves and what types of activity to watch for and report. Developing a stronger partnership that actively involves the local communities, its residents, and the Sheriff’s Office is key to reducing the threat of crime and making communities safer and more secure.
