Curbside Organics Collection
Dodge County Environmental Services received a grant in 2010 to help promote curbside organics/food waste collection from interested local businesses and residents. The grant allowed Dodge County to purchase containers and compostable bags to get this program started. The grant also helped purchase compost tumblers for onsite composting at interested local schools. The pilot study has ended but we would like this program to continue so if you would like more information regarding this program, call Rita Cole at Dodge County Environmental Services 507-635-6273. |
Compost
Using compost can save you time and money.
Composting is the decomposition of plant remains and other once-living materials to make an earthy, dark, crumbly substance that is excellent for adding to houseplants or enriching garden soil. Yard and food wastes make up approximately 30% of the waste stream in the United States. Composting is the way to recycle your yard and kitchen wastes, and is a critical step in reducing the volume of garbage needlessly sent to landfills for disposal.
Compost
improves low quality soils by adding stable organic
matter. Plants grow healthier and the user saves by
reducing the need to use fertilizers and pesticides.
Dodge County Compost is a well-balanced, slow-release
nutrient material with equal portions of nitrogen,
phosphorus, and potash.
Compost is available at the Recycling Center at
62236 240th Ave, Kasson.
